Admittedly, my expectations were fairly high - the topic of "Double Crossed" is very sensitive and although the outcome was known, reading the author's account was interesting, particularly the austere and challenging circumstances of being deployed on the mission in Iraq.For one, I was surprised to read "squaddie talk" (for the sake of authenticity it may be acceptable), for another I felt that there was a surfeit of detail of the author's private life, e.g. of how he got on with his employer in the time between his military engagements, and most of all the never-ending questioning of the hearing. Obviously there was access to the records . Finally, the account had a touch of complacency to it. While I would not want to belittle the author's feats and merits, it might have been a good idea to have somebody else write this book from a little distance.
An excellent read. Brian takes you through his life as a soldier and being betrayed with the false accusations. You feel like you are there with him. I wish Brian and his lovely family all the best.
An honest, funny and brutal account of Army life in conflict
What an awesome read! Brian puts down on paper the raw emotions and knock on effects of military life, from being under fire on the battlefield to the unfounded accusations in the court room. It’s a gripping read and written in true soldier narrative. Highly recommended, 5 stars!
